A whole new year

Welcome to 2013!!

I hope everyone has had a wonderful festive season. Lots of sewing related presents for everyone :-)

I have had a quiet Christmas this year. We spent Christmas Eve with my family, Christmas Day with Ashley's family and then back to my family for an extended family do on Boxing Day. And then Ash and I spent last night with the neighbours for New Years, just watching the kids run around and drinking champagne til the dot of midnight at which point we gratefully said our goodbyes and staggered up the road back to our house and straight to bed.

I told you guys that I made some Santa sacks, so I'm including some photos, so you can see how cool I am. I also made one for my sister, and have fabric for one for me - ours are a bit more traditional, though. I think I'll wait till November and get into the Christmas mood again, before I get started on those.

Present wise, I got some lovely quilting books from my Mum, and my sister went to a sewing store and has proudly told me she bought every item that had the word "quilting" in it's name.

And Ashley took me to IKEA yesterday and bought me some new furniture to fill my new... Drum roll please... Sewing Room!!! Yay!!!

I have now moved all my stuff out of our dining room and we now have our family space back, which Ashley is very happy about. I've got myself some cupboards for fabric, and a desk for my machine, and a table just for cutting!! It's like heaven! I spent the afternoon sorting all my fabric into colour groups. LOVE. I still have to refold everything nice and neat, but it's close to perfect.

I saw on Pintrest that some people are using comic book boards to make mini fabric bolts, which I really want to do, so I'm on the hunt for boards.

I find it hilarious that this time last year I didn't even own a proper sewing machine! And now I have a whole sewing room! If you'd told me last year that I'd be this addicted to sewing I'd have laughed at you. And now I sew or read blogs or pin projects daily.

I don't know how much I achieved in 2012, but I enjoyed myself! I made a couple of quilts, some bigger and more successful than others. I made a soft toy. I learnt how to bind a quilt which meant that I bound a few pre made panels for all the little people around me. Hey! I learnt how to quilt! I learnt how to patchwork! I had never done either of these thing before, and that's the coolest of thing of all.

  1. Woohoo! Your own sewing space. There is no going back now. Just the need to fill every last nook and cranny until they are over flowing. Oh the joy of it all.

    1. I do! It's great. The one down side is that there's a lovely breeze that comes through those windows - very refreshing, but it keeps blowing by nicely chopped up files of fabric around! lol

    1. I feel so bad for my hubby, considering a solemnly swore I wouldn't store my machine in the dining room - a year later and it hasn't left the table! Oops!
Lucky he's been patient with me. And very generous.

  8. It's good to have your own space. I'm lucky that I have a sewing room to, but it is so easy to get more stuff in it, make sure the stuff doesn't take over!

    1. But the stuff is so pretty!!!!!... :-(
I'm trying to stay organised. And I think I'll try to keep a rule that I'm only allowed as much fabric as will fit in each little cubby, so that wil hopefully help me keep it cleanish. Although I've already increased the scrap jars on top, and my table is now absolutely covered in projects.
