Needle book

I thought I would share an actual sewing project today. I know! OMG! I'd almost forgotten this was a quilting blog, considering the lack of sewing happening.

Now it's not a quilt, but it is part of my quilting class. I know I mentioned (once, twice or a thousand times) that I am taking Rachel's Handstitched class. So the first project is reverse appliqué. I was going to do the t shirt project, but didn't get to the shops in time (disorganised and lazy. I have no other excuses). So I made the needle book.

Check it! Lots of hand sewing. And I even went all out and added some embellishments to the inside.

Hope you're all having a great week!

  1. Oh, this is super cute! I've been needing to make myself a needlebook, and I've always wanted to try applique...maybe soon? :)

    1. Thanks! It's not something I really wanted/needed, but by the time I was halfway through making it, I was desperate for somewhere to put my threads, etc. And since it's finished it's been chock full of supplies, so maybe I really did need it, but didn't know it!
It was actually super easy. And the best thing about it is that it was small. Whereas the medallion in my quilt is huge so it shows off my imperfect stitches. But because this is small, it's easier to be consistent.

    1. lol thanks Anne. It was the most random fabric from my stash and the dodgy felt form the craft tore, but I think it kind of works :-)
I've stared my blossom, but had to rip our my stitches - they were awful! I got halfway and looked at them and shuddered in horror. I'm looking forward to the embroidery this week. I really want to do those sashiko coasters. Although I think I'm going to do them as a table runner/placemats. I don't want spilt cups of tea all over them! They're too pretty!

    1. Thanks Sarah. I really like the little extras too. I thik they're my favourite parts to be honest. I don't think I'd like it as much without them.

  10. Thanks, Sun Hee. I don't know if I'd go so far as to call it embroidery - it's really bad!! :-/ (note that I didn't take a close up photo) I'm hoping by the end my "embroidery" type skills will have improved.
I love your hearts on yours. And the stitching on yours is perfect. I'll keep practising and maybe I can come up to standard :-)

  11. I love your colors! I've been in a turquoise mood lately! I wanted to do a needlebook too, but I didn't have a chance to order any good wool felt in time and I didn't want to use something from the big box. And your extra details really make it stand out! Great job!

    1. Thanks. I just used cheap felt from the store (didn't realise I needed something else until I'd already bought it). Hopefully it holds together :-) It was actually super easy to make so if it does fall apart I'll make anothedr using this fancy "wool felt".
