Sarah's Wedding Quilt

I have another new project to start. Yes, this is like the third new thing this week, and no I haven't finished any of the others yet. But read on, and you'll see why this is going on this list now instead of waiting patiently in a cupboard somewhere...

--ooOoo--

One of my best friends is getting married in a few weeks. (aha! You have a time frame already!)

I am going to be a bridesmaid. I have a fantabulous dress! It's the nicest dress ever, and I will be wearing at every event for the rest of forever!

But I wanted to do something for Sarah. I wanted to make her something. I don't trust my own quilt making that much, nor did I really have a plan for what I thought she'd like, so I hadn't done anything about this.

Well Sarah came for tea. We chatted and I showed her some of my recent projects and she was super excited, and then we pawed through my fabric stash, looking for something she loved so I could work from there.

Well she found my bundle of comma.

And she fell in love. As you do. I know I love this fabric line. It's going to be a wrench to cut into it. But it will be going to a good home. I need to buy some more of the oranges and blacks to round out the colour scheme. Yes, I am buying more fabric! I can't help myself! I try, I really do.

But I am not buying frivilously or to hoard. I have a plan.

Sarah and I hit up Pinterest (yes, again. What can I say, that's where I keep everything now) and she searched through all my quilty pins.  She had a few that she liked, but they weren't going to work with the fabric choice. We got it narrowed down to about three.  I noticed that they were all quite modern, had fairly monochromatic types palettes, used lots of negative space, we're quite structured/linear... And it just so happens that I have been wanting to make myself an Arkansas Traveller.

I showed Sarah the picture on Freshly Pieced and she was hooked. This was the quilt for her.

I have sketched it out (mostly because I bought myself some graph paper and coloured pencils and wanted to play with them) and here it is:

I have warned Sarah that this is more likely to be a first anniversary present, before I'm finished with it... Or maybe second.

I think this will be fun though. I've never done any foundation peicing before, so this will be a whole new challenge! Wish me luck!

    1. I love Comma. I'm a little jealous that she's going to get this actually. I wanted to keep all the comma to myself. But at least I feel confident that she's going to end up with somethign beautiful.

  3. Arkansas traveller blocks are a lot of fun to make! Are you going to do the version with one fabric per diamond, or four fabrics per? And did you add the block in the middle, because I don't remember that being there. :) I just made them for a bee last month. :D Yay!! I really love paper-piecing, this is going to be GORGEOUS.

    1. I think I'm going to go four fabrics per diamond. I think if I did one fabric per diamond, the block would end up looking a little weird. Unless I did one fabric per block, but then I think I'd miss out on all the comma joy :-)
I did put the block in the middle, coz I couldn't make my graph paper work with the angles without it. I'm planning on doing the block properly though (although I think I'm going to file the idea I drew out away for future use. HSTs will be simpler then paper peicing!)

    1. Thanks, Chrissie. It's amazing how addictive graph paper and colour pencils are. I just want to draw out patterns. Not because I need to, but just so I can play :-)
