What you doin'?

Good morning lovely ladies, wherever you are!
If you're like me, you are waking up and trawling through your blog list to see who did what, while you were sleeping :-)

I have not done much on the sewing front, being back at work eats into sewing time in a dreadful way. Do you think If I asked really nicely they'd pay me to stay home and potter around my sewing room? And anyone who's says 'yes, it's called annual leave' is off my Christmas card list! Lol.

I signed up for a few things this year, which are a bit exciting for me. I was too scared to do this last year, but I really want to push myself and learn new things this year.
I have joined the Pile o Fabric skill building block of the month. It looks a little bit daunting, but also really stunning when finished. I'm toying with colour schemes. I need to pull my finger out though, because it's officially started and I dont want to be left behind. I'm going to play on the Palette Builder and see if I can come up with something I like. If that doesn't work, I'm just going to take to the shop and attack the piles of fabric with all my might. I want to go vibrant, but that's outside my comfort zone... Who am I kidding - just using this many fabrics in one hit is out of my comfort zone! I usually buy three or four fabrics and use them together - keep it simple. Instead I'm going to pick 4 colours in multiple values... Eeek! That's at least 12 different fabrics. OMG, what have I gotten myself into?

On a calmer note, I'm also doing the Giant Swoon Quilt Along happening over at the Hopeful Homemaker. I was origninally thinking this might be nice in yellows and greys, and then I could give it to a friend for a wedding present in November. But instead I picked these....
Yummy! I have yet to cut into it and get started. The maths is scaring me a bit. I'm think of deviating from the instructions and cutting strips and seeing if I can make it work that way... Maybe. I'll see :-) It's now going to be all mine and I'm keeping it for our Master bedroom.  Tonight is chopping night, so wish me lcuk!

And progress to report!  I've actually started on my Handstitched quilt.  It's not much, but it's getting there :-) I hate my stitching - it's so uneven and the stiches are different widths and different gaps... *grumble, grumble, grumble. To be fair to myself I've never handstitched anything properly like this before, so I shouldn't be too hard on myself.  I'm just grumbly becuase I'm using my nice fabric and I want it to be perfect!!

I had some time off over Christmas, and holidays are the worst as far as my fabric addiction goes. I spent so much time on fabric sites buying up a storm. Everything was on sale, how could I resist?? So far I have recieved 3 squishy packages and I am expecting more to arrive... I'm sure Ashley won't even notice... Maybe... It'll be fine!!

I really need to buy some solids, but I feel a bit lost, like I don't know where to start. So far most of the solids that I've bought have been from Spotlight, and I find they're not as high quality as I'd like. They tend to fray, and I really want these fancy new projects to be un-frayed. I'm kind of hankering for those fancy pants Oakshot shot cotton everyone's raving about.  Picture that in my Skill builder! Yum!

Now I've got to get to real work, so have yourselves a fabulous day! Talk soon.

    1. I've been watching the Harry Potter movies. OMG weren't they so little and cute in the first one!! But I'm almost finished those now, so I think tonight it will be Pride and Prejudice (BBC version). It goes for about 6 hours so I should get some quality cutting doen in that time :-)

  2. Wow you have got lots of lovely sewing projects on the go, can't wait to see what you come up with for your skills builder project. And I think I've said before I love the turquoise and chocolate, it's going to be great. Your hand stitching is lovely by the way. It looks good enough to me!

    1. lol. I was reading somewhere this morning that someone is doing the giant swoon as the backing for there swoon quilt, so you could say it's just an extension of the original project. Doesn't add to the WIP list. :-D
I just though it was really pretty. I makes me want to do the little block too, but I'm not even bookmarking them yet. Just let me finish some projects (I've got at least 10 sitting in various states, and that doesn't include the piles of fabirc that are earmarked but not cut).

  4. Hi, what's wrong with your stitching? It's looks fine.
I haven't started my Skill Builder yet either, I got the fabric out today and looked at it for a while and decided I needed to work on my scant 1/4" seam before cutting into it! Good luck x

    1. yuck! It's awful! I just made sure to angle the camera so it looks likt it's all perspective, but actually the stitches start teeny tiny and get bigger and looser as I go... I'll take a proper photo so you know I'm not overstating it.
I don't get the difference between a 1/4 and a scant 1/4. I'm just going to sew them all the same and hope that that works :-)

  6. Your stitching looks great! And it really does get better as time passes and you're not in the middle of sewing it!
